ZenoWell vs Vagustim: Luna, Luna Plus, and V2 Compared

ZenoWell Luna, ZenoWell Luna Plus, and Vagustim V2 are ear-based taVNS devices, but they organize the user experience differently.

Luna focuses on four predefined routines that run directly from the device. Luna Plus keeps the same device-based experience while adding app guidance, AI Coach, session history, additional routines, and heart and sleep insights. Vagustim V2 combines standard sessions and presets with broader app-based parameter configuration.

The main difference is not which device delivers stronger stimulation. It is whether the user prefers predefined routines, connected guidance, or more direct control over individual settings.

How Each Device Fits Into Everyday Use

ZenoWell Luna: Simple, Device-Based Routines

ZenoWell Luna provides Sleep, Relax, Relief, and Medit directly on the device.

A typical session involves moistening the earpiece with water or conductive gel, placing it on the left ear, selecting a mode, and increasing the intensity until the sensation is noticeable but comfortable.

Luna does not require an app, Bluetooth connection, account, or subscription. Users do not need to configure frequency, pulse width, session duration, or duty cycle before starting one of the four core routines.

This makes Luna the most straightforward option for users who want:

  • a fully device-based experience;

  • fewer decisions before each session;

  • clearly named routines;

  • no connected tracking;

  • low dependence on software or subscriptions.

The trade-off is that Luna provides less direct control over individual stimulation parameters.

ZenoWell Luna Plus: Routines With Connected Guidance

Luna Plus retains the four on-device modes available on Luna: Sleep, Relax, Relief, and Medit. These modes can still be started without opening the app.

The Zeno App adds:

  • Focus and Digest routines;

  • AI Coach;

  • daily check-ins;

  • session history;

  • heart-rate and HRV references;

  • sleep score and sleep-time information;

  • Zenoband Mobi support;

  • optional contactless facial heart-rate and HRV measurement.

AI Coach connects check-ins, available body signals, session history, and daily patterns to help users understand trends and select an existing routine or wellness habit.

It currently provides data-informed routine guidance, not automatic stimulation adjustment. It does not automatically change frequency, pulse width, duty cycle, intensity, or other underlying parameters.

This makes Luna Plus suitable for users who want the simplicity of predefined routines but also want help answering practical questions such as:

  • Which routine may fit today?

  • How consistently have I been using the device?

  • How are my daily heart or sleep signals changing?

  • Which routine may fit sleep preparation, relaxation, focus, digestion, or recovery support?

Vagustim V2: Presets With Broader Parameter Control

Device-level offline controls are documented, although Vagustim's current help materials are inconsistent about whether a complete session can be started without the app or internet.

Current Vagustim product information identifies the following adjustable areas:

  • intensity;

  • frequency;

  • pulse width;

  • total session duration;

  • duty cycle.

The physical device supports intensity control, while the broader parameter settings are managed through the connected experience.

Vagustim V2 may appeal to users who:

  • want more control over individual stimulation settings;

  • already understand why they want to change specific parameters;

  • want more direct control over a specific parameter combination;

  • use compatible third-party wearable platforms;

  • prefer technical flexibility over a routine-first interface.

Users who do not want to configure individual settings can still use standard sessions and presets. More parameter access provides additional flexibility, but it does not by itself establish better personalization or better health outcomes.

Predefined Routines vs. Parameter Control

ZenoWell and Vagustim take different approaches to session setup.

Luna and Luna Plus organize stimulation around named routines. The user selects a routine associated with the moment, adjusts the intensity, and begins.

Vagustim V2 gives users access to presets while also allowing broader parameter configuration through the app.

Neither approach is universally better.

Predefined routines may be more suitable for users who prioritize:

  • faster setup;

  • fewer technical decisions;

  • easier repetition;

  • a more consistent daily habit.

Broader parameter control may be more suitable for users who prioritize:

  • technical flexibility;

  • specific configuration options;

  • greater involvement in session setup;

  • the ability to explore different settings within the product's limits.

The important distinction is that more settings do not automatically mean better results, while fewer settings do not prove that a protocol is more effective. They represent different product-design choices.

Apps, AI, Wearables, and Offline Use

ZenoWell Luna

Luna is designed for standalone use. It has no app, Bluetooth connection, session history, AI Coach, or integrated body-signal dashboard.

ZenoWell Luna Plus

Luna Plus keeps its four core modes on the physical device. The app is required for Focus, Digest, AI Coach, check-ins, history, and heart and sleep references.

Zenoband Mobi can provide heart rate, HRV, sleep score, and sleep-time references within the Luna Plus experience.  When a wearable is unavailable, the optional face-scan feature can provide contactless heart-rate and HRV trend references.

The current Luna Plus process can be summarized as:

Check-ins, session history, and available body signals → AI interpretation → routine and habit guidance

The process does not currently include automatic modification of stimulation parameters.

Vagustim V2

Device-level offline controls are documented, although Vagustim's current help materials are inconsistent about whether a complete session can be started without the app or internet.

Vagustim lists integrations with platforms such as WHOOP, Oura, Fitbit, Garmin, and Apple Health. Supported platforms, imported data types, AI availability, and Premium features may depend on the current app version, account, region, and access tier.

Hardware and Ear Placement

Luna and Luna Plus use a left-ear earpiece with two contact points positioned around the concha area. ZenoWell explains the design in its guide to cavum concha and cymba concha stimulation.

Users moisten the contacts with water or conductive gel and adjust the earpiece for stable contact.

Vagustim V2 uses a bilateral earset and includes different spacer sizes, a rechargeable and replaceable battery, a spray bottle, and a charging cable.

A larger number of contacts or bilateral placement should not automatically be interpreted as stronger stimulation, better vagal engagement, greater comfort, or superior outcomes. Ear shape, positioning, moisture, contact stability, and individual comfort can all affect daily use.

For all three devices, users should reduce the intensity or stop the session if stimulation becomes painful or uncomfortable.

What Product Research Can and Cannot Show

ZenoWell reports manufacturer-associated testing, including an HRV repeatability assessment involving more than 60 healthy participants. Readers can review ZenoWell's wider research approach on the Science and Research page.

Unless complete methods and results are independently published, manufacturer-associated testing should not be presented as independent clinical validation. A short-term HRV response does not prove treatment of insomnia, anxiety, migraine, pain, digestive disease, or another medical condition.

Vagustim states that more than 50 studies used its first-generation Vagustim V1 technology. That research may be relevant to the platform's development history, but it should not be presented as 50 direct validations of the finished V2 product, its current app, AI functions, or wearable integrations.

As of July 2026, we did not identify a published direct head-to-head study comparing the finished ZenoWell Luna, Luna Plus, and Vagustim V2 products.

More settings, additional contacts, AI functions, manufacturer-associated testing, or research involving an earlier model do not independently prove that one finished product produces better health outcomes.

Individual experiences may provide context on comfort and daily usability. Readers can explore attributed experiences on the ZenoWell User Stories and Reviews page, but testimonials should not be treated as evidence of clinical effectiveness.

Safety, Intended Use, and Regulatory Status

These products are positioned for consumer wellness use and should not be treated as substitutes for medical diagnosis, professional care, or treatment.

ZenoWell advises against use for people with implanted pacemakers, ICDs, or other life-sustaining electronic devices; people with epilepsy or a seizure history; users under 18; and pregnant users without medical approval.

Luna Plus also advises caution for people with severe heart disease, a high risk of arrhythmia, or an inability to communicate discomfort.

Users should follow the exact instructions and contraindications supplied with the product they purchase. Current ZenoWell instructions are available in the ZenoWell User Manual.

Stop a session and seek appropriate advice if stimulation causes pain, burning, dizziness, palpitations, faintness, or other unusual symptoms.

CE marking, FCC compliance, RoHS compliance, FDA establishment registration, and FDA product listing should not automatically be described as FDA approval, FDA clearance, or proof of clinical effectiveness.

Routine names such as Sleep, Relief, Focus, or Digest describe wellness-use categories. They do not mean a product is authorized to treat insomnia, pain disorders, ADHD, digestive disease, or another medical condition.

Final Verdict

ZenoWell Luna, Luna Plus, and Vagustim V2 represent three different approaches to everyday taVNS use.

Choose ZenoWell Luna when you want the simplest standalone experience. Its four routines run directly from the device, with no app, Bluetooth connection, account, or subscription required.

Choose ZenoWell Luna Plus when you want the same device-based core routines with optional AI guidance, session history, daily check-ins, heart and sleep references, additional routines, and Zenoband Mobi support.

Consider Vagustim V2 when broader parameter configuration and selected third-party wearable integrations matter more to you than a routine-first interface.

Vagustim V2 provides more technical flexibility. ZenoWell Luna reduces the number of setup decisions. Luna Plus sits between those approaches by combining predefined routines with a connected guidance and tracking layer.

Current evidence does not establish that one finished product delivers better health outcomes than the others. The more useful choice depends on whether you prefer simplicity, connected guidance, or broader parameter control.
